Lesson 2 - Episode 66: The 7 Principles of Branding and How to make amazing graphics
The 7 Principles of Branding
“Your brand is your promise to your customer. It tells them what they can expect from your products and services, and it differentiates your offering from your competitors’. Your brand is derived from who you are, who you want to be and who people perceive you to be.”
What is your company’s vision?
What is your company’s mission?
What are the features and benefits of your products and/or services?
What do you want your customers to think of when they hear your name or your company’s name?
1. K.I.S.S. – Keep IT Super Simple
It is so easy to get wrapped up in trying to be everything and trying to do everything. Your Brand is an extension of you. Your Brand is your story, your vision, and your idea. Don’t look at the other “guys” and feel like you need to be doing whatever they are doing and you need to be everywhere. Find you mark and create your own Uniqueness. Find what works for you and find out where your potential customers are hanging out and be there and give back to them. It might be Instagram, it might be Twitter, wherever it is- be there.
2. Identify Your Audience (Your Niche)
You will need to do a lot of homework here. Who is your ideal customer and what motivates them? How do they behave? What problems or issues are they having? This is a great time to Poll your audience on Social Media, or your Email list and just ask them. If you are brand new and don’t have many followers on Social or you don’t have an email list then I suggest you get a group of friends together and do a focus group and ask them the questions. You really and truly want to know who your audience is so you can deliver to them exactly what they need. You want them to say “OMG DMJ really knows me, that is exactly how I feel.” “How does she know me so well?”
3. Brand Messaging
This is where you decide after all the surveys and polls, and group focus groups that you have done and you now know where your potential audience is spending their time, it’s now time to start with your Brand Messaging. On every Email, on Every Social Media Link Bio, on every Interview, on every Blog Post you write, you should have the same Brand Message, almost like your Elevator Pitch. Who are you? Who do you serve? What do you do? Why are you different? Why should I work with you?
I will give you an example for me…
I am Dina Marie Joy a Podcaster and Brand Stylist.

4. Brand Style
I have to tell you this is by far my favorite. I have a design and color background so I guess that is why I love talking about Brand Styling. For me, this is super easy but now that I have worked in the design field for over 10 years, I do get it that not everyone has a gift to put things together when it comes to their fashion, their home, and their Brand. This is so second nature to me I don’t even think about it. I would like to share with you the most important aspect of your Brand when you are sharing it with the world and this includes…color, images, filters, fonts, your website, and your Logo.
